Accountability update

While I’m waiting for my lasagne to cook, I thought I’d update you on how yesterday’s accountability tools have worked out for my day off. Today got off to a slow start, with a morning walk that lasted about an hour and a half. After that, I texted my best friend my daily schedule, which read:

Disclaimer: When I say "ambitious", I mean ambitious for me. I spend a lot of time reading and writing notes in addition to writing down my answers when working on an exam, so I end up spending about two days on each exam I go through.

Roughly translated it says: “Went for a walk from 10.30-now, but now I’m eating breakfast, and then I’ll start to work. Today’s goal is ambitious, I’m going to complete the exam I’m working on currently, and do the entire re-sit exam from 2016. Photo evidence by 11 PM tonight!”

It is currently about 5 PM, which is typically when I have a huge dip in concentration, (which is why I decided to eat dinner and blog right now.) I’m a bit behind schedule, but since I usually ramp up my work during the evenings I think I’m going to be able to complete at least the physiology portion of the re-sit exam. The anatomy section takes up a bit too much time for my liking at the moment, since drawing out the different diagrams takes ages.

I will try to figure out a different method as the day goes on, and add a section below after I’ve finished work for today.

EDIT: It is now past 11 PM, and here are my main take-away’s from today’s accountability project:

1. I need to dial down my daily goals: My goal was way too ambitious. Had it not been for the drawings then perhaps it would have been feasible, which brings me to today’s next finding.

2. The drawing takes away time that could have been spent revising: The anatomy section is taking up far too much time. Instead of drawing every structure, I’m going to print out diagrams instead, color them in, and mark each section with the Latin nomenclature. This is just temporary, and I will probably go back to drawing the structures myself during the summer holiday.

3. Know your energy levels: My productivity is at its best from about 9/10 AM to 2/3 PM, and from 7-11 PM. It is therefore best to schedule any major breaks for exercising, blogging, dinner, etc. in the timeslot between 4-6 PM.

Since I didn't manage to take any pictures today, I just wanted to include a little throwback image of my cat, Mai, enjoying being pet and scratched behind her ears. I can't wait to see my pets when I get home!

I’m going to try to incorporate these elements into my work schedule for tomorrow, but now I’m going to take the rest of the day off, and watch yet another episode of House of Cards to reward myself for today’s hard work!
